Food / Cantonese restaurant
Boduo Xinji
Boduo Xinji (博多新记) is one of Shanghai's veteran Cantonese tables — open for over twenty years, first as a lane-side dai-pai-dong-style shop, and a fixture on Dianping's must-eat list. After closing for 2 years, it has reopened on the 6th floor of Golden Bell Plaza near Huaihai Middle Road, where a black-and-gold signboard and a backlit wall of bottles give the room an old Hong Kong feel. The cooking is Cantonese with Shanghainese touches: start with the sand-ginger free-range chicken (沙姜走地鸡) and the handmade cuttlefish cakes (手工墨鱼饼), and share a Hong Kong-style claypot rice with cured meats (腊味煲仔饭). The entrance is an office-building lift lobby rather than a streetfront — save the Chinese name and look for 柳林路8号.
