Harmay
Harmay (话梅) is China's original warehouse beauty store — grown from a Taobao shop started in 2008, it opened its first physical store on Shanghai's Anfu Road in 2017 and went properly viral with the Beijing Sanlitun store in 2019. Inside, shelves of travel-size minis let you try luxury skincare for pocket change, and the no-assistant, self-service format feels more like browsing an art space than a cosmetics counter. Each store is designed around its own theme — a wartime air-raid shelter in Chongqing, a neighbourhood supermarket at Shanghai's Xintiandi — and the Wukang Road flagship doubles as a café and community space. Prices run from dozens of RMB for minis up to full-size luxury.
